ASU baseball looks to get back on track versus UNLV as the Sun Devils will honor Barry Bonds with a special pre-game ceremony.

ASU baseball is coming off a disappointing series loss in Los Angeles versus USC.

The Sun Devils dropped the first and third game of the 3-game series with the Sun Devils defeating the Trojans 7-0 Saturday.

On Sunday, ASU dropped the rubber game of the series with a 7-4 loss.

Arizona State and USC went back-and-forth as it was 2-2 after four innings, but things went awry for the Sun Devils after that as USC went on to score 4 runs in the 4th inning putting the game out of reach.

Arizona State once again saw their pitching staff throw the ball inconsistently with also some poor defense costing them Friday’s game.

While the ASU starters have thrown the ball well, they are not going deep into games and it’s forcing head coach Tracy Smith to use his bullpen early and often.

Expect Smith to utilize the bullpen a lot Tuesday as that’s what he tends to do during mid-week games.

Tuesday will be a special night for the Sun Devils as they will honor Barry Bonds with a pre-game ceremony and by wearing jerseys that he wore back when he played for Arizona State.

The opponent the Sun Devils will face wearing these jerseys is UNLV.

The Rebels sport a 10-16 record and is currently in the midst of a seven-game losing streak after getting swept by New Mexico this past weekend.

UNLV second baseman Justin Jones and first baseman Nick Ames leads the way offensively.

Jones bats .363 with 4 home runs and a team-high 26 RBIs.

Ames is the Rebels’ other run producer with a .323 batting average, team-high 5 home runs and 25 RBIs.

UNLV also has two players sporting long hitting streaks as left fielder Payton Squier and right fielder Ernie De La Trinidad having hitting streaks of 16 and 15 games respectively.
