ASU Softball: Pac-12 Play Begins in Seattle
After going 19-5 out of conference, the No. 21 ASU softball team begins their Pac-12 schedule against No. 6 Washington.
ASU softball has had four games against ranked opponents so far this season. They are 0-4 on the season and have given up a combined 11 runs while only putting up three runs of their own. Washington, the No. 6 team in the nation, will be the highest ranked team Arizona State has faced thus far.
The Huskies are 21-3 on the season and have only lost to one ranked team. The University of Washington boasts one of the best hitting teams in the country. Washington has a team batting average of .368.
Adversely, Arizona State boasts one of the lowest team ERAs in the country. On the season ASU’s pitching staff has a combined ERA of 1.22. Additionally, three Sun Devil pitchers, Dale Ryndak, Giselle Juarez and Breanna Macha, are ranked within the top-100 while the Huskies only have two pitchers ranked within the top-100.

While previous games this season will indicate that Arizona State will have a difficult time this weekend against the Huskies, ASU’s batting order has come alive as of late to pair with the stellar pitching.
Chelsea Gonzales has been stellar for ASU as of late. She leads the team with 26 RBIs and is second on the team in both batting average and home runs. If the Sun Devils can continue their hot bats, and have peace of mind knowing that the pitching staff will deliver, then this can be an interesting series to begin Pac-12 play.
The series starts Friday at 2:00 p.m. MST, while no starter has been named as of yet, Macha will likely get the start after starting the first game of their series against Nebraska. The second game of the series will start at 1:00 p.m. MST, and the series will wrap up on Sunday with a noon start.
