For the second game in a row, ASU baseball fell to the No. 2 team in the nation, Oregon State.

After a 2-0 pitchers’ duel in game one of the series, the Beavers came out swinging and never looked back as Oregon State rolled to a 10-1 victory.

Spencer Van Scoyoc was the starting pitcher for ASU. This was the freshman’s fourth start of the year but he only lasted 4 1/3 innings with three runs given up.

“Hopefully this experience is going to pay off for him and he’s going to get better down the stretch,” said Arizona State manager Tracy Smith when asked about Van Scoyoc’s performance.

The Beavers started the game by scoring two early runs in the top of the first inning for the second game in a row and Bryce Fehmel continued the trend of dominant pitching setting the Devils down in order in the bottom half.

Fehmel, the starting pitcher for Oregon State, went eight innings only giving up four hits and one run. Grant Grambell closed the game out for the Beavers with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Nick Madrigal, second baseman for Oregon State, went 3-4 at the plate. When asked about his performance during the game, Smith said, “That kid is the best baseball player in the country.”

ASU centerfielder Andrew Shaps was the lone bright spot for the team going 1-4 and scoring the only run of the night for the Sun Devils.

After Van Scoyoc was taken out, the pitching did not improve. Jake Godfrey, James Ryan and Alec Marsh combined to pitch 4 2/3 innings of relief giving up seven total runs on 10 hits.
