After being shut down by Oregon State starter Luke Heimlich Thursday, ASU baseball looks to take Game 2 sending Spencer Van Scoyoc to the mound.

After gathering some momentum with a sweep of Long Beach State, ASU baseball began conference play Thursday falling to No. 2 Oregon State 2-0 behind a pitching gem from the Beavers starter.

Beavers starting pitcher Luke Heimlich shut down a potent Sun Devils lineup holding ASU to just 2 hits.

Second baseman Andrew Snow got the Sun Devils in the hits column with a 2-out single in the fifth inning with center fielder Andrew Shaps getting a 2-out single of his own in the sixth inning.

Arizona State also got two more baserunners via walks, but that was all ASU could muster versus Heimlich.

Oregon State got two quick runs off starter Eli Lingos in the first inning, and that was all the Beavers needed.

The Sun Devils will look to bounce back Friday as they send freshman pitcher Spencer Van Scoyoc to the mound.

Van Scoyoc has pitched magnificently in his first collegiate season, but struggled a little bit in his last versus LBSU throwing 4.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits, 4 walks, 1 strikeout and 3 hit batters.

In total, Van Scoyoc is sporting a 2.00 ERA this season to go with 12 strikeouts and 16 walks.

Van Scoyoc will oppose a strong batting order as Oregon State sports a team batting average of .280 and an OPS of .770.

Leading the way for Oregon State is shortstop Nick Madrigal.

Madrigal sports a team-leading .407 batting average to go along with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.

In total, Oregon State have four players with at least 10 RBIs showing the balance they have in the batting order.

Arizona State will look to get the bats awakened versus a stingy Beavers pitching staff who own a team ERA of 1.12 and five shutouts.

Oregon State has only given up 24 runs (18 earned) in 16 games this season.
