The No. 21 ranked ASU softball team is returning home to face Maine in a midweek matchup.

For ASU softball, they are coming off a disappointing weekend where they were unable to beat a top-25 opponent despite having two chances. This game against Maine will start a four game home stand meant to prepare the Sun Devils for the conference season, which begins on March 17 when ASU will be in Seattle, Washington to take on the University of Washington.

While both pitching and hitting have performed well for Arizona State this season, there have only been a few games where both have been on the same page. Their game against Maine may be the perfect opportunity to get on the same page.

Maine comes into this game with a 1-4 record after competing in the Grand Canyon University Invitational. Their pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.03 and their hitting staff is batting a combined .216.

More from Devils in Detail

While any opponent has the ability to surprise and pull off an upset, Boston College handed ASU their first loss of the season as major underdogs, this should be a fairly easy game for the Sun Devils.

The starting pitcher for Arizona State, whoever that may be, shouldn’t have an issue with the Black Bears lineup they have to go up against. Head coach Trisha Ford may elect to start a freshman in the circle to help instill as much confidence in the young pitcher as possible before conference play starts.

On the offensive side, ASU’s hitting lineup should have a field day with the Black Bears pitching staff. With the big bats of Chelsea Gonzales and Ulufa Leilua, the Sun Devils should have no issue lighting up the scoreboard.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. MST and it can be streamed live through ASU’s live stream feed.
