ASU baseball picked themselves back up with their 12-5 win against New Mexico State in Phoenix after losing their series versus Texas Christian University.

Sun Devils starting pitcher, Zach Dixon, was taken out of the game after giving up one earned run in his 1 ⅔ innings pitched. Fitz Stadler took his place on the mound.

“He struggled throwing strikes,” said Tracy Smith, ASU baseball manager.

Stadler pitched 3 ⅔ innings allowing two runs against 15 batters faced.

“It was good just getting in the dugout as soon as it happened and just getting the team fired up and getting them in a good mood to score some runs,” said Stadler when getting the first out with the bases loaded.

Stadler also mentioned that he was building on his fastball and relying on his defense to play behind him to end the innings quickly.

ASU started off slow until they reached the fourth inning. Four runs were scored allowing for the team to take the lead over the Aggies. Zach Cerbo and Andrew Snow both drove in two runs during the inning.

“I was really just looking for a fast ball first pitch, something that I could hit big up the middle. I didn’t grip a good piece on it but found a hole and it worked out,” said Cerbo about his single up the middle.

Snow was a key player to the game. The second baseman went 4-4 and had the most runs batted in for the night.

Starting in the bottom of the fourth, the Sun Devils had at least one run in every inning. The strong offense allowed for the team to get their season high number of hits in one game to 15. On the defensive side of things, the team allowed for only one error throughout the whole game.
