ASU Softball: Power Bats Lift Sun Devils to Win Over Texas

After splitting Day 1 of the Mary Nutter Classic, ASU softball defeated the Texas Longhorns thanks to an offensive explosion and Dale Ryndak’s quality start.
ASU softball played only one game Saturday in the Mary Nutter Classic and they pulled out all the stops for the victory.
Arizona State improved to 11-2 after holding on for a 9-6 victory over Texas.
The Sun Devils sent pitcher Dale Ryndak to the circle for the first time in the tournament throwing 5.2 innings allowing 6 hits, 6 runs (2 earned), 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
Pitcher Giselle Juarez, who started Friday versus Texas A&M, came on in relief to pick up the her first save of the season throwing 1.1 innings allowing only 1 walk and striking out 1 Longhorn.
Arizona State unleashed their power today as Sun Devils smashed three home runs off Longhorns pitchers.

Designated hitter Miranda Farricker, first baseman Margaret Stahm and right fielder Fa Leilua all hit their first home run of the season combining for 4 RBIs.
Arizona State finished with eight players recording hits with Leilua leading the way batting 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Just like in Saturday’s game versus Notre Dame, the Sun Devils started quick scoring 6 runs in the first three innings of the game.
Leilua hit an RBI single in the first inning, center fielder Skylar McCarty hit an RBI sac fly in the second inning and ASU got three runs in the third inning thanks to a 2-run triple by second baseman Marisa Stankiewicz and an RBI single by thrid baseman Taylor Becerra.
Texas rallied back after trailing 9-2 in the sixth inning with 4 runs but Juarez secured the win by getting the final four outs of the game.

Arizona State will wrap up the Mary Nutter Classic Sunday with games versus UC Santa Barbara at 2:00 p.m. MST and versus No. 14 Michigan at 4:30 p.m. MST.
