The third and final game of the weekend series between ASU baseball and Northwestern was postponed Saturday afternoon following an hour and a half rain delay.

The game was sent into a delay in the top of the third inning with the score tied 1-1, but there was plenty that happened for ASU baseball before the delay.

True Freshman Spencer Van Scoyoc made his first career start and pitched effectively in his rain-shortened start. Van Scoyoc started the game off with his first walk as the leadoff hitter Jack Dunn took four balls. Dunn would come around to score on a Connor Lind base hit back up the middle which gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead early. Van Scoyoc picked up his first of three strikeouts on the day in the first inning as well throwing a fastball past Joe Hosciet.

More from Devils in Detail

Offensively the Sun Devils got off to a slow start despite a double down the left field line in the first by Lyle Lin who is batting .500 now on the young season. The Devils were able to get the game tied back up in the second after Jeremy McCuin laced a triple into the left-center gap and was brought in one batter later by Myles Denson, the RBI single was Denson’s first career hit as a Sun Devil.

The tarp was rolled out following a four-pitch walk by Van Scoyoc as the rain came down harder in the top of the third. The game will resume tomorrow at 12:30 pm from the point at which it was delayed. Northwestern will have a runner on first in a 1-1 game, with one out.

Admission will be free at Phoenix Municipal Stadium for the conclusion of the game.
