Why Fans Shouldn’t Focus on the Record

courtesy of: Sam Ficarro

“ASU basketball is 8-7 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play in Bobby Hurley’s second season. While the record isn’t pretty, it shouldn’t be the determining factor.

Arizona State finished last season 15-17 and a defeat to Oregon State in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament. With Hurley’s first recruiting class coming in this season, many were looking for the Sun Devils to take the next step. However, this season has not gone as planned. The Sun Devils are 8-7 and 1-1 in Pac-12 play after an up-and-down non-conference season.”

Another great article from one of our own. While this season has started off shaky, it is important to remember three things. One, your non-conference record has nothing to do with your seeding for the conference tournament. Two, it is still early into non-conference play, there is no need to be worried about the state of the Sun Devils. Three, Hurley purposely set up a difficult non-conference schedule.

If fans can remember those three things, especially that last point about the difficult non-conference schedule, then they might find this season exceeding expectations when all is said and done.

Way too Early ASU Baseball Preview

“Arizona State has reached the college baseball postseason in 15 of the last 16 seasons, and success has followed manager Tracy Smith from Indiana to Tempe.

In his second season at the helm, Smith compiled a record of 36-23 in his second season at the helm and brought in the nation’s top recruiting class according to college baseball daily, including top pitchers Alec Marsh, Zane Strand and transfer Jake Godfrey.”

It’s never too early to talk about the upcoming baseball season! It is hard to believe that in about six weeks from today baseball season will be upon us. While practices ramp up for ASU baseball, so will coverage of baseball here on Devils in Detail. In the meantime, here is a nice article that really makes us wish this season could get here quicker.

Swimmer will be Joining the Best at Arizona State

“Khalil Fonder’s attraction to Arizona State predated the arrival of Bob Bowman and Michael Phelps.

An opportunity to swim for the world’s most celebrated coach and the most heralded swimmer was an offer that was too sweet to pass up. Fonder, a junior at William Byrd, said he accepted a full scholarship offer from Arizona State on Monday night.

He won Group 4A state swimming championships last year in the 100-yard butterfly and backstroke and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100-meter backstroke.”

A great story surrounded around an ASU swimming program that is really turning heads in the swimming world. They may not be quite as good as their fellow Pac-12 schools Stanford and USC, but they are starting to make a name for themselves in the swimming community thanks to Bowman and Phelps.
