The Arizona State women’s volleyball team took a tough loss against Washington State in the state of Washington with a final match score of 3-1.
The Sun Devils played a strong first set against WSU starting off with two kills from Ivana Jeremic and Oluoma Okaro. ASU continued to play consistently against WSU all throughout the first set, but fell short with a final set score of 25-23.
During the second set the Sun Devils mentality seemed to fail them by allowing WSU the first five points of the set. The Sun Devils continued to play catch-up throughout the second set, but they were unable to recover from the strong start by WSU. WSU took the victory again in the second set with a final set score of 25-22.
The third set was the highlight of the match for the Sun Devils. Their mentality and communication was at its strongest. ASU held off WSU for the entire third set by at least two points. The Sun Devils showed true competitiveness in this set and finished it off with a win with a final set score of 25-23.
Due to the Sun Devils recovery in the third set, this led the match into a fourth set. ASU was showing the same amount of competitiveness throughout the fourth set and kept the score consistent with WSU. The Sun Devils had the lead over WSU until the final five points of the game. WSU managed to gain three more kills which resulted in a final set score of 26-24.

Overall, the Sun Devils showed tremendous improvement by coming back against WSU in the third set. Maya McClendon, Cassidy Pickrell, and Okaro were the players of the game. McClendon had the most kills with 24, Pickrell followed with 13, and Okaro had 8.
As a whole the Sun Devils had an attacking percentage of .152 while WSU had an attacking percentage of .226.
ASU still continues to struggle with errors. Collectively, ASU had a total of 31 while WSU only had 19.
This was a tough loss for the Sun Devils as the conference season is in the home stretch. The Sun Devils will take on Washington this Sunday at 12 p.m.
