The Arizona State women’s volleyball team returns to Tempe tonight for their final home stretch of the season. The Sun Devils begin their homestand with the Los Angeles schools starting with No. 25 USC tonight.

The Sun Devils returns home after spending last weekend in the north pacific against the Oregon schools, including their second win in conference play against the Oregon State Beavers.

It was an overall successful trip for the team as they were able to get a win and compete against the #20 ranked Oregon Ducks. These improvements on the court are exactly what coach Stevie Mussie has been wanting to see from her young team, as well as a drive to finish sets, which will lead to wins.

The Trojans have had a decent season in the tough conference, compiling a record of 15-9, and 7-6 in the Pac-12. A huge reason for their success is Phoenix native and Xavier College Preparatory grad Khalia Lanier.

Lanier has been up some incredible numbers for a freshman seeing lots of time in the rotation and averaging an even four kills per set. On the defensive side of the net, senior libero Taylor Whittingham has been averaging just below five digs per set and will be important for the Trojans trying to make a late push for seeding in the tournament.

More from Devils in Detail

For the Sun Devils, the upsurge in production by sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Koonts has provided a bright glimpse into the future of Sun Devil volleyball. Koonts has been used well in the offense of late for ASU, and has been able to increase her service kills while not forcing a lot of errors.

The month of November has an opportunity to be very good for the Sun Devils, with six of their eight matches at home they can use their home court to get some wins as well as build on a program that has a history of success and a coaching staff not used to losing.

Their game against USC begins at 6 p.m. and is available to watch on ASU’s live stream.
