The Arizona State women’s volleyball team lost on Sunday morning in four sets to the No. 20 Oregon Ducks.

The early morning matchup was very competitive as the Sun Devils proved to be a good matchup against the Ducks, but lacked the firepower to come away with the victory. It was an important victory for Oregon, as they remain one-game back of Pac-12 leaders Washington and UCLA.

Leading the way for Oregon were outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide, and right side hitter Willow Johnson. Vander Weide led the match in kills with 19, while Johnson, the freshman and Arizona native, contributed 10 kills with only two errors.

Vander Weide has been important for the Ducks offense all season, and will need to continue the production if Oregon wants to make a serious run at the Pac-12.

For ASU, Jasmine Koonts was the highlight of the road trip, as she filled the stat sheet again on Sunday recording nine kills, and a very efficient .412 hit percentage. The sophomore middle blocker has seen an uptick in time in the rotation, leading to more production and a bit of a glimpse into the future of Sun Devil volleyball.

Another highlight of the afternoon for the Sun Devils was senior transfer Maya McClendon recorded her 1,000th career kill in the third set. McClendon finished the match with 10 total kills including six in the third set, the only set won by Arizona State.

The Sun Devils will now return home for the final stretch run of the season, which includes six of their final eight games of the season at home. This weekend includes a visit from the LA schools with USC on Friday night, and UCLA Saturday evening. For a team that spent the good majority of the season on the road finishing strong at home could be a nice confidence boost.

Friday’s game starts at 6 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena, and can be viewed through the ASU live stream.
