The Arizona State women’s volleyball team won their first game of the Oregon road trip Friday night against the Beavers in four sets.

The Sun Devils struggled in the opening set losing by 11 points, but rallied to easily win the next three sets in dominant fashion.

Sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Koonts had an impressive performance in the victory accounting for a team leading 12 kills. Junior libero Halle Harker continued her defensive dominance with 18 digs.

Arizona State now has two Pac-12 wins on the campaign, and an overall record of 9-14. Oregon State now takes over the cellar of the Pac-12 with a record of 8-14, and 1-10 in conference.

More from Devils in Detail

The Sun Devils now travel down to Eugene for a Sunday morning matchup with the No. 20 Oregon Ducks. Oregon’s coming off of a tough home loss in five sets to the Arizona Wildcats, but are having a very impressive season in the tough Pac-12.

ASU played the Ducks earlier this season in Tempe for the home opener and gave a ranked opponent a great game lead behind a strong home crowd at Wells Fargo Arena.

Players to watch for Oregon on the offensive end are sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide freshman outside hitter Jolie Rasmussen. For defense, senior libero and Arizona native Amanda Benson has been a catalyst to stop the offense, recording 5.04 digs per set.

Vander Weide leads the team with an average of 3.08 kills per set, and Rasmussen was second at 2.71. ASU will once again struggle with a taller opponent’s size up front, a common theme in Pac-12 volleyball. If the Sun Devils can bring the same level of intensity they had last month they can give the Ducks a game, it will be more difficult on the road but the team is feeling good coming off a win.
