ASU Men’s Basketball: Kimani Lawrence Verbally Commits
By Zach Pekale
For the second straight year, Arizona State mens’ basketball head coach Bobby Hurley has secured the commitment of multiple top-100 recruits.
After cutting his list down to ASU, Florida and USC 10 days ago, four-star wing Kimani Lawrence has chosen the Sun Devils over the Gators and Trojans.
Hurley went back to his East Coast roots to recruit Lawrence and the Providence, R.I. native ultimately chose to come to the West Coast
Noted for his athleticism, Lawrence is an exceptional perimeter defender as well as an explosive threat at the rim.
What scouts have recently been impressed by is his much-improved three-point shooting. As Lawrence continues to build it he will add more versatility to his already multi-faceted game.

With the graduations of guard Shannon Evans and forward Obinna Oleka looming after this season, Lawrence should immediately step into a starting role in 2017 and could form an exciting tandem with Sam Cunliffe.
The addition of Lawrence gives ASU additional depth in both the frontcourt and backcourt. At 6’6″ and 180 pounds, Lawrence has the capability to be a matchup nightmare as a two-guard, his natural position of small forward or can stretch the floor at the 4.
With Lawrence now set to join a 2016 recruiting class that was a top-20 group, Hurley will potentially have four or five 4-star recruits on the same floor next season.
Lawrence joins point guard Remy Martin in Hurley’s 2017 class, giving the former Buffalo head coach two four-star prospects with ASU still in the mix for several other top-100 players mulling their options.
