ASU Volleyball: Sun Devils take on Oregon State Beavers

The Arizona State women’s volleyball team, who is now 1-9 in conference season, will take on the 1-9 Oregon State beavers tonight.

The Sun Devils have already competed against Oregon State earlier this season. It was a close match between the Sun Devils and the Beavers, but the Sun Devils fell short in the final set with a match score of 25-18.

This week’s game will be a chance for the Sun Devils to redeem themselves and earn their second win of the conference season. Throughout the season so far, both the Sun Devils and the Beavers are neck and neck with their stats.

Over all the Sun Devils have an attacking percentage of .178 and 12.2 kills per set. The Beavers have a slightly higher attacking percentage of .206 and 12.9 kills per set.

Followed by their attacking percentage and kills per set, both the Sun Devils and Beavers have had a high amount of errors throughout this conference season.

ASU has had a total of 80 errors and an average of 1.0 errors per set. Oregon State is right up there with ASU with a total of 74 errors and an average of 1.0 errors per set.

Individually ASU’s top players this season have been sophomore middle blocker, Jasmine Koonts, junior middle blocker, Oluoma Okaro, senior outside hitters, Cassidy Pickrell and Maya McClendon, and sophomore setter Kylie Pickrell.

So far Okaro, Pickrell, Koonts, and McClendon have the highest attacking percentage on the team. Pickrell holds the top spot with a percentage of 2.73 and an average of 3.04 points per set. Behind her is teammate Okaro averaging 2.68 kills per set and an average of 3.67 points per set.

Both Koonts and McClendon fall right underneath Pickrell and Okaro. Koonts has averaged an attacking percentage of 1.52 kills per set and holds an average of 2.00 points per set. McClendon holds an attacking percentage of 1.93 kills per set an a percentage of 2.11 points per set.

ASU’s biggest competitors are going to be junior outside hitter, Mary-Kate Marshall, and sophomore outside hitter, Lanesha Reagan.

Marshall holds the top attacking percentage for Oregon state with an average of 4.06 kills per set and a percentage of 4.62 points per set. Her teammate Reagan holds an average of 3.45 kills per set and averages a score of 3.87 points per set.

This will be an interesting match for the Sun Devils since they have already battled Oregon State earlier this season. The Arizona State women’s volleyball team will kick off their match against Oregon State at 7p.m. and the match can be seen through an Oregon State Live Feed on Pac-12.com.
