With the season being an overall disappointment, Arizona State’s match against Oregon is a must win.

ASU has had a tough time in the Pac-12 this season. Since the Sun Devils started Pac-12 play began at the end of September, the team has gone 1-5-1. The Sun Devils have really frustrated fans after a loss to Oregon State, a team that didn’t have a single win in the Pac-12 before beating ASU. Now ASU will head to Eugene to take on the ducks.

Oregon has taking walked a similar path as their in-state rivals this season. Their first win in the Pac-12 came Thursday when they shutout Arizona 1-0. Statistically, Oregon and ASU have had almost identical seasons in the Pac-12. Arizona State has only scored two more goals than Oregon and have giving up only three less goals than the Ducks.

Oregon’s leading scorer is sophomore Kyra Fawcett. As the weather has gotten colder so has Fawcett. After 3 goals in first 7 games of the seasons, the Utah native has only scored 2 goals in her last 9 games. ASU has struggled defensively recently. This may be the perfect opportunity for Fawcett to get back in form.

More from Devils in Detail

Arizona State is hoping to see Jazmarie Mader play today. She hasn’t played since their match against Washington State, their last win. The team has looked lost without her explosive play that she had during non-conference play to begin the season. Before Pac-12 play, Mader had scored in six straight games. After that goal streak, Mader has only scored in two straight games. The Sun Devils are also hoping that Lucy Lara and Aly Moon will return today to add some much needed help in the midfield.

The Sun Devils are still waiting for sophomore Natalie Stephens to get one in the back of the net this year. The Ducks have conceded 15 goals in their last 7 games. This may be the perfect opportunity for Stephens break out of this awful slump as the Sun Devils will be looking to do the same.
