The Arizona State women’s volleyball team returns to Tempe for a brief home stand starting with No. 19 Washington State on Wednesday night.

The Sun Devils are coming off of a split during their Bay Area visit against Stanford and California, which included their first conference win, the first of the Stevie Mussie era.

Most knew this season would be a bit of a struggle for this Sun Devil team due to their lack of height as well as a new coach with holdovers from the Jason Watson era. The team’s lack of success can also be credited to a tough schedule against a very talented Pac-12 field.

The Sun Devils now face a good Washington State team that find themselves in a bit of a funk as of late dropping three straight matches after starting Pac-12 play 5-0. The last two of those losses came in five sets at home against Colorado and Utah.

More from Devils in Detail

Senior Oluoma Okaro led the Sun Devils in kills on the recent road trip. Okaro has been key to any success the Sun Devils have had and will be important as the team plays for just the third time at Wells Fargo Arena.

Key players to watch on the Cougar roster include outside hitters Kyra Holt and McKenna Woodford.

Holt is a senior out of Hercules, California and is the team leader in kills and kills per set.

Woodford, the sophomore is a local product out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz. Woodford is second on the team in kills, and appears to take over as the offensive leader for the Cougars over the next two seasons.

The Sun Devils will have a battle at the front of the net against a tall Washington State team that has out-blocked their opponents by a 48-34 margin.

ASU will be seeking its first home win of their season in what will be only its third chance as the short home schedule reaches near the midpoint.
