Heading into this season, ASU football experienced a lot of change during the off-season.

Not only did the Sun Devils lose last season’s starting quarterback, Mike Bercovici, to graduation, they also lost about half of their coaching staff with the most notable name leaving being the offensive coordinator Mike Norvell.

With so many new faces around the facility, chemistry will be a key factor into how much success the Sun Devils have this season.

The main relationship where there needs to be chemistry is between the starting quarterback (who we still don’t know yet) and the new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey.

A good relationship between these two equals a starting quarterback who will be confident in the pocket and won’t be afraid to take risks and learn from his mistakes.

With all the quarterbacks vying for the starting job being underclassmen, it gives them room to form a bond this season and strengthen the bond over the next couple of seasons.

Another area where a good chemistry needs to be formed is between the defensive secondary and the defensive line.

ASU’s secondary had trouble last season with some of the trouble coming from the wave of injuries they suffered.

Even though they did have a lot of injuries, there were times where communication between the guys up front and the secondary seemed to break down.

players who were supposed to come in behind the defensive line and close up gaps failed to do so because they were under the impression that they were supposed to drop back into coverage.

Chemistry throughout the whole defense is key to having any success during the season.

Finally, there needs to be chemistry between Todd Graham and his coaching staff.

Coach Graham needs to make sure all his coaches are on the same page and that they all understand the expectations he has for this season.

If Coach Graham fails to form chemistry with even one of his coaches, then it could be a very long season for the Sun Devils and we could see some new faces next off-season.
