After gaining four commitments from the Class of 2017 in the past week, ASU Football added another 2017 commit on Thursday.

The commitment came from three-star safety Ty Thomas from Lubbock, Texas.

Thomas originally committed to Oklahoma State, but withdrew his commitment from Oklahoma State and instead committed to ASU after a visit this past weekend.

“After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to flip my commitment to Arizona State, I cannot thank the fans and coaching staff at Oklahoma State enough for the opportunity, but I feel that Arizona State is my best fit,” Thomas tweeted out.

Thomas is ranked as the 60th best safety according to 247Sports.

The commitment from Thomas provides ASU with future talent at a position that has been a concern for ASU in the past.

Standing at 5-foot-11, and weighing 195 pounds, Thomas will need to add more muscle before he arrives to ASU in 2017.

His size does allow him to possess great speed and tackling skills.

These two skills paired together make Thomas a great tackler in the open-field, a problem that ASU’s defense had all of last season.

.

Thomas also is very good at tracking the ball.

If you watched the highlights above, then you saw how Thomas always kept his head up, looking at the ball. This skill allows Thomas to run down the ball carrier, even when he begins his run on the other side of the field.

More from Devils in Detail

Thomas is a player that could burst onto the scene when he becomes a Sun Devil.

His skill set will allow him to easily transition from the high school level to the college level.

Even though he may not be the flashiest signing or the best signing in ASU’s Class of 2017 recruits, he is a valuable prospect to gain as commitments from the Class of 2017 keep rolling in.
