After being criticized for having a weak non-conference schedule in the upcoming season, ASU football announced a home/home series against Oklahoma State that will take place during the 2022/2023 seasons.

The first game of the series will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, while the second game of the series will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.

The announcement of this series couldn’t have come at a better time, as larger media outlets are starting to criticize the Sun Devils for having a weak non-conference schedule.

The presumed hardest non-conference opponent for the Sun Devils this upcoming season is Texas Tech who finished 7-6 last season.

Oklahoma State will provide ASU with two high-quality games that will give ASU competition from one of the top football programs in the nation.

“I am excited about the series with Oklahoma State University,” said Coach Todd Graham. “Scheduling is very important to the overall success of a program and this is the type of matchup that we are seeking to fulfill our future dates.  This series will continue to help build our football program.”

More from Devils in Detail

The series against Oklahoma State takes the place of the previously scheduled home/home series against LSU after LSU asked that the dates of that series be pushed back.

The LSU series is now scheduled to take place at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with the away game in Baton Rouge scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 8, 2029.

Other upcoming scheduled series include ASU in a home/home series with San Diego taking place during the 2027,2028 seasons. The Sun Devils have also scheduled home games against Kent State in 2019, and Southern Utah in 2023.

By scheduling all these series out far in advance it not only gives ASU fans games to be excited about, it also gives ASU football talking points when it comes to recruiting.

A big part of recruiting is what the schedule looks like while the player is going to be there. By scheduling games against some of the best football programs in the nation, they can offer the recruits the promise of playing against high-caliber talent.

Get ready ASU fans, because for the next decade ASU’s non-conference is going to be a lot more exciting.
