Will the Milwaukee Brewers entice Brophy’s Chad McClanahan away from ASU?

courtesy of: azcentral

“Phoenix Brophy Prep third baseman Chad McClanahan isn’t a lock to play next baseball season at Arizona State after being taken in the 11th round of the MLB draft on Saturday by the Milwaukee Brewers. McClanahan, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound, power hitter, has an adviser. He had talked to every major-league team. They’d been told he probably wouldn’t sign if drafted beyond the third round.”

This is a side effect of having possibly the best draft class in the nation. Good players such as McClanahan won’t every step on the field because of being drafted so high, the money is too good to turn down. If McClanahan stays with ASU, it will be a huge statement to how well ASU Baseball does on the recruiting side of things. Next season will definitely be one to watch if ASU can keep most of their top signees from leaving in favor of the MLB.

It’s go time for car team

“Machines can be things of beauty, and over the past year the student engineers of Arizona State University’s Formula SAE team have created something truly beautiful. On Monday morning, the team will hit the road for the international Formula SAE competition in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they’ll compete with 79 other teams from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, India, Japan, and South Korea from June 15 to June 18. And as in any good story, the team experienced an 11th-hour setback, running into mechanical problems Friday evening but finding a way to power through.”

Even though this isn’t the sportiest article, it is still very cool and it is related to car racing! The fascinating part about this article is that students at Arizona State put a race car together from start to finish and it competed in a race yesterday. Here’s to hoping that there are more articles related to this story going forward!

Ewen tallies 2nd first-team honor, Tibbs earns second-team

“The Arizona State women duo of Maggie Ewen and Keyasia Tibbs wrapped up the final day of the women’s NCAA Championships with both of them earning All-American honors on Saturday at Historic Hayward Field.”

Very good to see the honors for ASU’s spring sports continue to pile in. This time it isn’t academic honors, rather honors for on-the-field performance. Both these women are very deserving and Ewen being on the first-team for the second time is an awesome and amazing feat that should be celebrated all summer long.
