ASU pitcher Seth Martinez selected in 17th round

courtesy of: azcentral

“Arizona State pitcher Seth Martinez was selected on the final day of the major league draft Saturday as were seven more ASU signees. Martinez (9-4, 2.75 ERA), a junior right-hander who made All Pac-12, was picked in the 17th round by Oakland. He was the fifth current Sun Devil chosen after Brian Serven, Colby Woodmansee, Hever Bueno and David Greer on Friday.”

ASU Baseball has had a very good showing at the MLB draft. Seth Martinez will be a player that will stay in the minors for a while before being brought up in a relief type role where he will only need to pitch one or two quality innings. Martinez could thrive in this type of role as he has a very good pitch arsenal and he has done well in a starting role this season. Take his pitch count down from 100 to no more than 40 and he could be a very reliable relief pitcher.

ASU Sun Devil Stadium renovation price tag expected to climb

courtesy of: Phoenix Business Journal

“The renovation of Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University is expected to climb to $268 million. That’s according to a report in the Arizona Republic that says the Board of Regents will likely vote on the final phase of the project Friday and that the overall budget for the renovation will climb an additional $12 million.”

The saga of Sun Devil Stadium renovations continue. Costs just seem to keep increasing for renovations and it is getting to the point that they board of regents have spent so much money that they would have been better off constructing a new state-of-the-art stadium. It will be great to see the stadium once renovations are fully done, but who knows when that will be.

More from Devils in Detail

“The Pac-12 Conference and Commissioner Larry Scott announced the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field All-Academic teams on Thursday, and seven Arizona State student-athletes earned First-Team honors. Redshirt junior CJ Albertson, redshirt sophomore Cody Brazeal, and redshirt freshmen Matthew Eckles, J.P. Nelson and John Reniewicki all were named to the First-Team All-Academic list for the Sun Devil men. Sophomore Haleigh Fritts and junior Keyasia Tibbs were two women who earned First-Team honors.”

It is always great to see Sun Devils thriving on and off the field. In this case there were seven Sun Devils from track and field who were given the honor of Pac-12 First-Team All-Academic. ASU always has athletes on these lists for their respective sports and it is great to see that track and field is no different.
