No. 22 ASU Baseball is starting to come together at just the right time, with the upcoming weekend series against USC being the last of the regular season.

This series is a huge for ASU, who currently sit in third place in the Pac-12 standings. There is a possibility that the Sun Devils could finish in a three-way tie for first place if they sweep this three-game series with USC in addition to the University of Washington winning two out of three games against Utah.

Even if the ASU finishes in a three-way tie for the Pac-12 title, they would not receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as they lost the season series to both Utah and Washington.

In order to sweep the weekend series, ASU will have to continue to get good performances out of their starting pitchers.

Seth Martinez has been the ace for the Sun Devils pitching staff. In 101.1 innings pitched this season Martinez is boasting a stellar 2.04 ERA.

Martinez is the best starting pitcher in the Pac-12 this season with the lowest ERA among starters. He also has nine wins this season, the most wins by a starting pitcher in the Pac-12.

More from Devils in Detail

As long as Martinez continues his stellar season, ASU will have something that they didn’t have last season, a dominant pitcher.

The Sun Devils also have had the luxury of a consistent bat in the lineup in infielder David Greer. The junior has been on fire all season long as he leads the Pac-12 in doubles with 23 as well as total bases with 117.

Greer has 69 total hits on the season which is an average of 1.33 a game.

With two strong players, one a pitcher and one a hitter, ASU has the tools to be a dangerous team.

With other players filling into their roles, fans of Sun Devil Baseball have every right to be excited about the upcoming postseason.
