The ASU Baseball team took the season series from the University of Arizona this past weekend, winning two of the three games in the weekend series.

Quick Thoughts:

Anytime you can come out victorious over your rival it is a good feeling, and the fact that this weekend series continued the Sun Devils momentum in May just sweetens the victory that much more. ASU has been playing extremely well lately, and this series was no different. Strong pitching was the focal point of ASU’s play this past weekend. Solid outings from Seth Martinez on Friday and Jordan Aboites on Sunday were the two memorable aspects from this past weekend.

Players to watch:

This past weekend was all about pitching, and both winning pitchers from this past weekend, Seth Martinez and Jordan Aboites, deserve the nod for players to watch. On Friday, Martinez was the epitome of a starting pitcher. He lasted 7.1 innings and gave up only 6 hits and 1 earned run. He also had 2 walks to go along with 6 strikeouts. On Sunday, Jordan Aboites pitched a gem. Although he only lasted 5 innings, Aboites only gave up 3 hits and didn’t allow a run during his time on the mound. Overall a strong weekend from the ASU Baseball pitching staff as they only gave up 7 runs all weekend.

Final Thoughts:

The guys in that locker room have to be feeling good right now. They are coming off a series win, their third straight, and they are looking like a complete team at the right time. They have 7 games remaining until they find out their fate in the post-season seeding. Currently they sit in 4th place in the Pac-12 standings but they are sure to break the top three if they continue their domination of May.
