The ASU softball team looks to end their 12-game losing streak this weekend against the struggling Stanford Cardinals.

ASU softball has a good opportunity this weekend to earn a moral victory against Stanford in their last home series of the season. ASU softball is currently on a 12-game losing streak after struggling in Pac-12 play. The positive about this weekend series is that Stanford doesn’t have a single in conference win this season.

Stanford is also on a 12-game losing streak and has faced the same problems that ASU has faced this season. Poor pitching paired with a hitting lineup that is hit-or-miss is what has led to both of these teams struggling this season.

Kelsey Kessler has been a bright spot on the ASU pitching staff. She has a 3.26 era and has a win-loss record of 13-10. Stanford’s pitching staff hasn’t had any consistency all season with pitching that has lacked control and constantly gets behind in the count. Stanford’s combined era is a 5.70. Stanford also has no pitcher with a winning record on the season. ASU will have a clear advantage this weekend on the hill.

Stanford and ASU both have powerful lineups. ASU is led by Jennifer Soria who boasts an impressive .353 batting average with 150 at bats. Stanford is led by Kylie Sorenson who has a .339 batting average with 112 at bats. ASU has been able to produce offense all season long, the team has a combined batting average of .321. Stanford has been able to produce offense, but it has been nowhere to be seen at times. Stanford has a combined batting average of .238.

Prediction: ASU on paper has an easy advantage over Stanford, but it may not be that easy. ASU will win their home-finishing series winning 2 of 3.
