Former ASU QB Shines in SF

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler has said recently that he is 100% ready to take over for Peyton Manning if and when he is needed.  The former Sun Devil gunslinger is putting his money where his mouth after 2 impressive performances in the preseason.  The Broncos were hoping he would step up this season and solidify his spot as the ‘QB of the future’ after an inconsistent 2013.

Osweiler has frustrated Denver coaches, showing his incredible athleticism and arm strength on one play and his indecisiveness and errant throws on another.  This led to the organization drafting another QB in the 7th round, Zac Dysert from Miami (OH), just in case the plan for Osweiler didn’t work out.  Dysert impressed the coaches so much last preseason that the Broncos decided to keep him on the active roster instead of the practice squad, thinking another team would quickly scoop him up.

After another inconsistent camp, Osweiler struggled through his first few series of Denver’s first preseason game against the Seahawks throwing one interception and taking a sack.  After another trip to the bench and a little pep talk from Mr. Manning, Osweiler grabbed his helmet and led the Broncos on a game winning touchdown drive capped by a beautiful throw to WR Jordan Norwood.

Fresh off the Seattle win, Osweiler and the Broncos headed to play the next best team in the NFC on Sunday.  After Peyton Manning put the Broncos up 10-0 against the 49ers, Osweiler took the field and didn’t skip a beat.  He was accurate and decisive; moving the team methodically down the field leading to two touchdowns, highlighted by a 33-yard strike to WR Cody Latimer.  Denver won the game 34-0 and while Zac Dysert still looked solid, don’t count on the Broncos keeping him around too long.  Denver’s question of “who will be our QB of the future?” may just have been answered.
