Sun Devils in NFL: Preseason Update

facebooktwitterreddit

Thursday night was the first chance of the season for some former Devils to show how they can contribute to an NFL team, here’s a look at a few of their performances:

Brock Osweiler (Denver Broncos, 2012 2nd Round Pick):

Outside of 2 possessions with Manning under center, Osweiler had all night to showcase his ability.  After starting out of sync by leaving throws short, several penalties and getting picked off, Oz bounced back with an 80 yd. game winning drive capped by a 34 yd. strike to WR Jordan Norwood.  He was 6/12 for 85 yds. 1 TD and 1 INT along with 17 yds. rushing.

Marion Grice (San Diego Chargers, 2014 6th Round Pick):

Grice is another Sun Devil who saw lots of action Thursday night by having the most carries (14) for the Chargers. Though in a tough position having 3 solid RBs in front of him in the depth chart (Ryan Mathews, Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead), he showed off his speed and power by breaking away for an 18 yd. run.   Grice finished with 15 carries for 35 yds. and 1 reception.

Alden Darby (San Diego Chargers, 2014 Undrafted F.A.):

Darby’s disappointment of not being selected in the draft was curbed by the fact he would be playing for his favorite team with former teammate Marion Grice in San Diego.  Although he is a long shot to make the final roster, Darby made an impact on special teams, which may be his best opportunity to stick around this season.  He saw limited action at strong safety with the Chargers’ third team, finishing with 2 tackles.
