They also play some pretty good high school football on the Bayou, as evidenced by the highlights reel of Arizona State’s latest verbal commitment, running back Darrel Williams.
Listed at 6-1 210, Williams is a Rivals 4-star prospect (3-star by Scout, ESPN and 24/7 Sports) who received offers from a host of major programs, including Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Kansas State, Houston, Indiana, Tulane and Mississippi State.
A product of Ehret High School in Marrero, La., Williams is an all-purpose runner with a knack for making defenders miss. He’s also demonstrated good ball-catching skills during his prep career. He accounted for more than 2,300 all-purpose yards last season.
In addition to spending some time at the quarterback position in Ehret’s “Big Patriot” offense (a variation of the Wildcat formation), Williams has been asked to play safety on defense and occasionally return kicks.
Williams’ versatility and athleticism undoubtedly caught the eye of ASU head coach Todd Graham and his staff, who have been making a concerted effort to expand their recruiting inroads in Texas, Louisiana and other southern states.
