ASU Fall Football Practice: Day 2
The two-deep rotation remained unchanged from yesterday’s opening session. Most of the action has been at the cornerback position, with several players vying to earn the open spot opposite of Osahan Irabor. At this stage, it would be difficult to pick a frontrunner between Robert Nelson, Lloyd Carrington and Rashad Wadood (although head coach Todd Graham praised Carrington in his post-practice comments).
Running back Deantre Lewis seems to have returned to his freshman form. He was featured on punt return duty today, and stood out when given the opportunity to carry the ball. D.J. Foster also posted a solid performance in the backfield.
Starting quarterback Taylor Kelly once again led the offense during 11 on 11 drills, with backup Mike Bercovici showing steady progress in his backup role. Berco has always had a strong arm and good accuracy, but his touch on the ball appears to have improved since last season.
While the ASU coaching staff waits for new arrivals at the wide receiver position, the current group of wide-outs continues to struggle with dropped balls and busted routes. Hopefully help is on the way.
