After the spring practice, it became clear that ASU needs more playmakers who play wide receiver. While ASU has dynamic running backs, h-backs, and tight ends, the offensive is not complete without strong wide receivers. The Sun Devil offense needs wide receivers to keep safeties honest by staying back in the secondary. By chance, a potential star wide receiver is part of the Arizona high school class of 2014.
#3 Jalen Brown, WR, Mountain Pointe High School, Phoenix
Jalen Brown, a 6’2” 180 pound wide receiver out of Phoenix Mountain Pointe, was the 2012 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. Brown is a natural at the wide receiver position as his highlights show strong hands and smooth route running ability. While not a pure burner, he shows superb quickness in and out of his cuts. Reports throughout the summer have prospect analysts enamored with Brown’s potential.
The Jalen Brown list of accolades includes the following:
- Scout.com 4 star, #7 overall rated WR
- Rivals.com 4 star, #5 overall WR, Rivals100 member (#50 overall), and he will participate in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in Chicago
- ESPN.com 4 star
- 247sports.com 4 star
- FanSided 150’s #68 overall ranked prospect
Currently, Brown has reported offers from Arizona State, Arizona, California, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Florida State and many others.
Brown is a home grown offensive play maker at a position ASU needs to add prospects. Wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander and recruiting coordinate Long would love to add Jalen Brown to the roster beginning in 2014.
