Football Recruiting: TE De’Marieya Nelson Signs LOI With Arizona State
A product of San Joaquin Delta (Calif.) Community College, the 6-3 230-pound Nelson chose Todd Graham’s Sun Devils over San Diego State, Utah State and Texas Tech.
Nelson originally committed to Arizona State in January 2013. He visited ASU’s Tempe campus the same month.
Ranked by JCGridiron.com as the nation’s No. 6 juco tight end, Nelson has played a variety of positions during his football career, including wildcat quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end. During the 2011 season, Nelson had 408 yards receiving with five touchdowns He rushed for 557 yards on 107 carries and scored eight touchdowns last year, as well as two receiving touchdowns.
Nelson is looking forward to working in ASU’s hybrid 3-back position.
With its 62-26 defeat of the Navy Midshipmen in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, Arizona State closed last year’s football season on a successful note. Under the hand of first-year head coach Todd Graham, the Sun Devils achieved an 8-5 record, won their first bowl game since 2005, and most importantly, set the stage for further achievements in the coming years.
