Football Recruiting: LB Eriquel Florence Signs LOI With Arizona State
A product of Contra Costa (Calif.) Community College, the 6-1 218-pound Florence originally committed to Arizona State in December 2012. He visited the Tempe campus a month earlier.
Florence chose Todd Graham’s Sun Devils over Western Kentucky.
On DevilsDigest.com, Florence had commented, “Talking to my Mom and other people, I just knew that Arizona State has everything I’m looking for. I liked the recruiting process with them and I really had no reason not to choose them. I love the family atmosphere, they have a great campus, and a great coaching staff that can help me take my game to the next level. I know that they can make me successful on and off the field.”
Florence had 91 tackles and six sacks in his sophomore season for Contra Costa, and was named conference Defensive Player of the Year.
With its 62-26 defeat of the Navy Midshipmen in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, Arizona State closed last year’s football season on a successful note. Under the hand of first-year head coach Todd Graham, the Sun Devils achieved an 8-5 record, won their first bowl game since 2005, and most importantly, set the stage for further achievements in the coming years.
