ASU Sun Devils In Profile: Marion Grice
The 6-foot, 200-pound Grice totaled 2,221 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns over just two years at Blinn Community College. He was named a second-team NJCAA All-American as a sophomore in 2011 after carrying 174 times for 1,052 yards with 16 rushing touchdowns, and was listed as the top running back in the Southwest Conference in the preseason by JCFootball.com. In addition, Grice earned first-team All-Southwest Junior College Conference honors as a freshman in 2010 after rushing for 1,169 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Despite FBS offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Utah and Western Kentucky, Grice made his way to Tempe, Ariz., for the 2012 season. His debut in a Sun Devil uniform on August 30 against Northern Arizona resulted in 107 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Despite a strong initial showing, Grice kept his progress in perspective. “I gotta get better. I wasn’t that good,” he said.
Look for Grice to step up for ASU in this Saturday’s game against the University of Illinois at Sun Devil Stadium.
