Arizona State entered Wednesday's contest in Lubbock, Texas desperate for a win but facing the No. 12 team in the country in Texas Tech was going to be a tall task. However, the Sun Devils pushed the Red Raiders to the brink, holding a lead deep into the second half.
That lead didn't hold and the two teams headed to overtime where ASU saw itself in position to win the game on its final possession. A turnover cost it that opportunity and a second extra period was needed to settle matters.
Once again, ASU found itself in position to win but more turnovers on two of its final three possessions ended the upset bid unceremoniously 111-106. Taking care of the basketball came back to bite the Sun Devils in a season where they can't seem to fix the simple mistakes.

Arizona State loses last chance to kick-start disappointing season
Give head coach Bobby Hurley credit, he came into Wednesday without freshman phenom Jayden Quaintance for a second straight game, an already extremely short bench and still pushed Texas Tech to the brink.
Five Sun Devils wound up with double-digit points and the team tied its season-high in made three-pointers in a game (13). Adam Miller led the group with 22 points but it was Texas Tech's JT Toppin who dominated, logging a whopping 41 points and 15 rebounds.
ASU falls to 12-12 on the season after losing its fourth straight game and five of its last six. The Sun Devils have failed to string together two consecutive victories in Big 12 play, this being year one of the program's membership.
All hope of seeing the postseason is by far gone at this point. Seven games remain for the team and there are still three more ranked opponents on tap (including a rematch with the Red Raiders on March 8 in Tempe). The only thing a few wins strung together can do is potentially delay Hurley's firing, especially with this talented roster likely to get raided when the transfer portal opens.
