Arizona State women's basketball has a new coach, and she's a proven winner.

Grand Canyon's head coach, Molly Miller, has accepted an offer to lead the Sun Devils after taking the Antelopes to their first ever Division I NCAA Tournament appearance.

In five seasons at Grand Canyon, Miller compiled a 117-38 record that saw improvements every seasom, culminating in this year's strong finish. The Antelopes were a perfect 16-0 in the conference before tearing through the conference tourney and punching their ticket to the Big Dance.

Prior to Grand Canyon, the Missouri native coached at her alma mater, Drury. Starting as an assistant, Miller was promoted to head coach in 2014. She saw immediate success, reaching the Division II Tournament every year it was held. She finished with an astounding 180-17 record, punctuated with a perfect 32-0 season, before moving to the Valley.

We reported last week that Arizona State was nearing a deal with Miller to replace Natasha Adair, who was fired by new athletics director Graham Rossini shortly after finishing her third consecutive losing season. Rossini traveled to Las Vegas, where Miller was coaching in the WAC conference tourney, to make his pitch.

Miller was also courted by two SEC programs located closer to home for Miller, Arkansas and Missouri, but Rossini beat them out. Contract details have not been disclosed yet, but Miller was reportedly enticed by the fact that Arizona State had become a dynasty under Charli Turner Thorne, Adair's predecessor, offering a clear path to sustained success in Tempe.

Additionally, sources indicated that Miller's extended family recently moved to the Valley in order to be closer to her and her children, which lessened the appeal of moving home for a job in the SEC.

Miller has quickly become one of the hottest coaches in women's basketball, and Arizona State hit a home run with this hire. Being that it is the first coaching hire of Rossini's tenure as athletics director, this move offers even more confidence in the new man leading Arizona State athletics.
