Although they were only able to take one game from the No. 10 team in the country, the ASU softball team should be proud of how they competed.

The ASU softball team won the first game of the series before dropping the last two, but they should feel good heading into this upcoming weekend against No. 3 Arizona.

Arizona State was able to compete all weekend. The first game was a success, and the other two games saw ASU giving the Utes all they were capable of.

All three games in the series were decided by a single run, and both teams had their bats going. Making sure the bats are alive will be the key for the Sun Devils moving forward.

The pitching is there, under Trisha Ford the staff looks ready for the postseason. As long as they get run support, they are one of the better pitching cores in the country. That will need to be at full display this weekend when ASU plays the No. 3 team in the country, Arizona.

Before facing Arizona State, Utah took two of three from Arizona the weekend prior. If ASU can continue the great play from last weekend this upcoming weekend, we may have an interesting territorial cup series on our hands.

No one likes losing, especially when you had two chances to take the series against a top-10 team, but taking away the positives from the series instead of the negatives will be important for the players.

Making sure that realizing how good they played against Utah is much more important than focusing on their inability to put games away. They need to use these experiences as learning opportunities before the postseason begins.

In the postseason ASU will need to put every game away when they can, and using this series as an opportunity to learn what it takes to put a game away will be important for the Sun Devils. The team looks to be learning at every opportunity, and while the pieces may not be together at the moment, the pieces are moving ever closer to their proper places in the puzzle that, once put together, will form a picture of a very scary Arizona State softball team.
