After a tough weekend against No. 6 Washington, the No. 21 ASU softball team got back on track with double-header sweep of New Mexico State.

The sweep allowed ASU softball to get to 21-8, an impressive record that only looks to get better.

In game one it was Breanna Macha in the circle, and she delivered. In six innings of work Macha pitched her way through the New Mexico State lineup with ease, she only allowed two runs on six hits while also striking out four. She was replaced by Dale Ryndak who pitched a solid inning of work. Ryndak struck out two on her way to earning the save for the Sun Devils.

In game two it was Giselle Juarez who earned the start, but she didn’t last as long as Macha had in the game prior. Juarez was pulled after 2.2 innings of work in favor of Ryndak who pitched the remaining 4.1 innings. In her 2.2 innings, Juarez allowed two runs on three hits while only striking out one. For Ryndak, she continued where she left off in the first game, only allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts.

On the offensive side of things, it was the long ball that won the day for Arizona State.

More from Devils in Detail

In the first game Sashel Palacios crushed one over the wall in the bottom of the second. While that was the only home run in the first game, the Sun Devils tacked on another four thanks to four hits. New Mexico State didn’t have an answer for the offensive firepower of ASU and the Devils won the first game 5-2.

In the second game, three Sun Devils waved their balls bye-bye. Randi Farricker started things off for Arizona State and she would be joined by both Chelsea Gonzales and Sashel Palacios. ASU would end up with seven runs on the day compared to New Mexico State’s three and would earn the double-header sweep with a 7-3 victory.

The ASU softball team will be back in action this weekend as they host Oregon State. Instead of a typical Friday-Sunday series, the first game is scheduled for Saturday and the third game is scheduled for Monday. All three games can be seen on Pac-12 Network.
