The Arizona State Men’s Ice Hockey team is coming off their first home win against an NCAA Division-I opponent. It was their first win over a ranked team in program history. The Sun Devils are 1-3-0 on the season so far.

The Sun Devils will be going on the road this weekend to take on the No. 17 Northeastern Huskies in a two-game series on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22. Both games are in Boston, Mass., at Matthews Arena.

Friday night’s game marks the first matchup ever between Northeastern and Arizona State. The Sun Devils make their first trip to Boston as an NCAA Division-I team.

No. 17 Northeastern is 1-1-2 this season. The Huskies started play with a two-game series against now No. 4 Quinnipiac. The first game finished with a 2-2 tie, and then Northeastern dropped the second with a 2-5 loss.

The Huskies then played Bentley, also in Mass., for a two-game series and finished the first with a 1-1 tie and won the second, 7-3.

More from Devils in Detail

Northeastern is a dominant team at home. They have gone 10-0-1 in their last 11 games at Matthews Arena. The success comes from a greater amount of shots and a higher percentage of power play goals.

The Huskies are led by senior forward and captain, John Stevens. He has only missed one game out of 118 in his career with Northeastern.

Senior forward and assistant captain, Zach Aston-Reese, has three goals and three assists for the Huskies so far. He had a career-high four points in their 7-3 win against Bentley. Huskies junior forward Dylan Sikura also had four assists in that win. Sikura leads the nation with eight assists on the season.

Arizona State has tightened up their game since the penalty-filled Notre Dame series where the stat sheet recorded 43 total penalties. The Sun Devils significantly cut their penalty total in the series against Air Force to just a total of 12 in the series.

Sun Devil forward and captain Dylan Hollman is tied for the team-leader in points with one goal and three assists so far this season. Freshman forward Tyler Busch looks to continue his goal-per-game streak after scoring a goal in each of the first four games.

Head coach Greg Powers will leave Sun Devil fans guessing who the starting goaltender is until warm-ups as usual because of the three-man rotation. Northeastern will start sophomore goaltender Ryan Ruck for the fifth straight time.

Both games will begin at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. MST. They can be seen live through Northeastern’s coverage and will also be heard live on Arizona State’s Blaze Radio.
