The Arizona State women’s volleyball team has hit a rough patch in the conference season. Now 1-8, the Sun Devils will need to step up their game in order to gain a win against Washington.

Earlier this week the Sun Devils took on Washington State who are now 6-3 in conference play. Unfortunately, the ASU women’s volleyball team fell short to the Cougars as they were swept in straight sets.

So far, this year’s conference season has been challenging for the Sun Devils. Their match against Washington this week will be a tough one due to Washington’s high killing percentage.

This season the ASU women’s volleyball team has managed to rack up an average of 12.3 kills per set; however, Washington has an average of 14.2 kills per set.

Overall the Sun Devils have a total of 995 kills throughout the 2016 season. ASU’s total amount of kills just tops Washington’s 932 kills.

Even though the Sun Devils have a higher number of kills over Washington, their main flaw comes from their errors.

More from Devils in Detail

Throughout the course of this season, the Sun Devils have a relatively high number of errors. Overall they’ve tallied up a total of 78 errors and an average of 1.0 errors per set. Washington is just under ASU with a total of 51 errors, and an error average of .8 errors per set.

A key concept to ASU winning against Washington will be their communication on the court. Between setters, hitters and blockers, all eyes will need to be on the ball.

Junior middle blocker, Oluoma Okaro, has been one of ASU’s top players this season. So far she has an average of 3.70 points per match and a total of 218 kills.

Her biggest competition against Washington will be junior outside hitter, Courtney Schwan. Throughout the duration of their season, Schwan has maintained an average of 4.25 points per match and a total of 247 kills.
