Loyal fans watched back home as Arizona State traveled to San Antonio to take on UTSA last night.

The first watch party for the Sun Devils football team was at The Grill On Mill, the restaurant that will serve as the location for all of Arizona State’s watch parties for away games this season.

“Its got a lot of TV’s, good food, and it’s right on Mill,” ASU’s Client Services Coordinator Jonathan Hidalgo said. “Not a lot of people know about it yet, but last year we had the watch party at four different locations, this year we’re thinking about keeping it at the same place and eventually people will know that this is the spot to go to.”

Fans came to the event very excited based off of the team’s early success.

“I didn’t think they were going to come out the gate very quick but last week blew me away,” 1989 Arizona State Alumni Mark Osman said.

The eight touchdown game from Kalen Ballage the week before has fans very excited about what he can do for the team this season.

“I’m glad he finally had that breakout game because he’s such a gifted athlete,” ASU’s Special Events Coordinator Tony Grandlienard said. “It seemed like it finally kicked in the coaches’ heads to just give him the ball and he’ll go to work.”

Ballage isn’t the only player getting attention from sun devil fans this season however.

Manny Wilkins looks great,” Arizona State Alumni Logan Hurst said. “He passes well so far, he runs well, he makes good decisions.”

Even though the team struggled in the first half and trailed by 9 points at halftime fans like Osman and Paul Lian, who have been fans ever since they moved to Arizona 22 years ago, stayed the whole game and watched the Sun Devils complete the come back to beat UTSA 33-28.

“This game tonight on the road to come back to win it is going to do us a world of good,” Lian said. “They never gave up, kept fighting, everybody maintained their poise. Very impressive win by ASU.”

The following Saturday, on October 1, The Grill On Mill will be hosting the second watch party event of the season as Arizona State will be traveling to Los Angeles to play the USC Trojans.
