After an impressive 2015 season for ASU football, Kody Kohl has been named to the John Mackey Award watch list.

The John Mackey Award is an annual award presented to the top tight end in college football, last season’s recipient was Hunter Henry of Arkansas.

Kohl gets a very deserving nod after having a stellar 2015 season.

On the season Kohl had 32 receptions for 368 yards, an average of 11.5 yards-per-catch.

Kohl also tallied four touchdowns on the season and formed a nice chemistry with Mike Bercovici, averaging almost 30 receiving yards-per-game.

Along with his receiving stats, Kohl also did a nice job of protecting the quarterback and creating a hole for runners when needed.

Kohl has been a reliable player while at ASU, having started in 26 straight games.

This upcoming season will be Kohl’s last, as he will be a senior, and he will be looking to improve on his 2015 season.

More from Devils in Detail

Forming a connection with the new starting quarterback will be key if Kohl wants to become the John Mackey Award recipient for 2016.

Kohl will need to prove that he is a reliable passing outlet and can be counted on to make the big play when the time calls for it.

Kohl will also need to continue to thrive at creating running lanes for the ball carrier.

Kohl did a very good job last season creating holes and then running up field to provide additional blocking for the ball carrier.
