ASU: Baseball/Women’s Hoops

This past weekend, the ASU baseball team won a PAC-12 series against the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis.  This is a big road series victory for the Sun Devils.

ASU, now 12-10 on the season (3-3 conference) is struggling a little bit this season to stay in a position of prominence.  Sun Devil baseball fans are used to watching ASU steamroll their way through the preseason and compete at a high level within the conference.

Right now, ASU is hanging around.  They’ll need to get hot and start taking more of these three game series if they want to be part of the post-season this year.

However, a series win against Oregon State is an excellent start.  The Sun Devils haven’t won a series in Corvallis since 2007.  Oregon State has been a solid program lately and are tough to beat at home.

The ASU women’s basketball team lost their second round game to Notre Dame by a score of 87-64.  In this game, the Sun Devil women were clearly out-matched.  To their credit, Notre Dame is one of the favorites to win the entire tournament.  They have two players that are projected to play in the WNBA very soon.

This ASU women’s team was considered by many to be kind of schizophrenic, winning some big games and also losing some headscratchers.  In any event, they are to be congratulated on a successful season.  Head coach Charli Turner Thorne continues to get her teams to overachieve and be competitive.

Next year’s women’s team should be a legitimate contender.
