ASU Football: Sun Devils Honored with Pac-12 Awards

Arizona State Sun Devil football is fresh off a dominating 58-21 win over in-state rival Arizona on Saturday night, but the Territorial Cup is not the only trophy the Sun Devils have won in the last few days. Head coach Todd Graham was named Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year and senior defensive tackle Will Sutton was named Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year.
Graham is the fourth coach in ASU history to win the coach of the year award, with Dennis Erickson winning it most recently in his first year as head coach in 2007. John Cooper and Bruce Snyder are the two others who won the award leading the Sun Devils to Rose Bowl appearances in 1986 and 1996, respectively.
Sutton is the second player to win the defensive player of the year award in consecutive seasons after Washington defensive lineman Steve Emtman did so in 1990 and 1991.
ASU had six players earn first-team all-conference selections, tied with Stanford for the most of any school.
Junior safety Damarious Randall was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week recording a game-high 12 tackles, forcing a fumble and returning an interception 64 yards for a touchdown against Arizona.
Freshman kicker Zane Gonzalez was the only player named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week twice this year for his performances against Arizona and Washington. Against Arizona, he made all three of his field goal attempts — continuing his school record of 18 consecutive field goals.
