ASU Football: Co-Defensive Coordinator Ron West Leaving for North Carolina

Coach Ron West leaving Tempe for North Carolina

According to independent news outlet Inside Carolina, Arizona State co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Ron West will be leaving Tempe to take the defensive coordinator position with the Tar Heels under Head Coach Larry Fedora.

West was instrumental in the Devils’ success on defense in 2012. Introducing the “Devilbacker” position to Todd Graham’s defense enabled the emergence of Carl Bradford as a playmaker. His coaching also saw Brandon Magee and Chris Young perform at a high level.

West was a defensive coach under Todd Graham at Tulsa before spending two years at Illinois. The Georgia native has more than 30 years of coaching experience, 16 on the defensive side of the ball. His previous coaching stops include Clemson, Tulane and Baylor.

No news yet if co-defensive coordinator Paul Randolph will take sole possession of the position or who will become the new linebackers coach.
