A product of Coppell (Texas) High School, the 5-11 175-pound Smith visited ASU’s Tempe campus in January 2013. He chose Todd Graham’s Sun Devils over Houston, Iowa and North Texas.

Ranked by Scout.com as the nation’s No. 123 wide receiver in the 2013 class, Smith is recognized for his speed, sure hands and route-running capability. As a sophomore in 2011, he played wide receiver and cornerback for the Cowboys. He caught 15 balls for 288 yards in a run-first offense and made three tackles in the homecoming game against Dallas Jesuit.

The Dallas Morning News ranks Smith as the No. 10 receiver and the No. 79 prospect in the Dallas area. The newspaper also named him its District 5-5A offensive MVP. Smith caught 59 passes for 1,071 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. According to recruiting services, he has the ability to play outside or in the slot. Smith has been timed running the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and participated as 100m/200m sprinter.

With its 62-26 defeat of the Navy Midshipmen in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, Arizona State closed last year’s football season on a successful note. Under the hand of first-year head coach Todd Graham, the Sun Devils achieved an 8-5 record, won their first bowl game since 2005, and most importantly, set the stage for further achievements in the coming years.
